Drug Free Approach Best Option During Pregnancy

Foundation for Chiropractic Progress Points to Chiropractic as First Option for Pain Relief
During Pregnancy
I just came across a press release put out by the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP), in April 2014 that responded to a recent study published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics.
The JAMA found that the use of acetaminophen for pain relief during pregnancy may be associated with a higher risk for hyperkinetic disorders (HKDs) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) like behaviors in children. The foundation is advising low risk, drug free alternatives, such as chiropractic care, for pain relief and improved health of expectant mothers and their developing babies.
According to the report, children whose mothers used acetaminophen were:
13 percent more likely to show ADHD like behaviors
37 percent more likely to be diagnosed with HKDs
29 percent more likely to be prescribed ADHD medications
Another related article in USA Today, also advised against substituting acetaminophen with ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), as they may disrupt fetal development and cause further problems. Expectant mothers experience added stress to the body due to weight gain and postural changes that often cause relentless discomfort. Instead of reaching to the pain killer, a more conservative options, such as chiropractic, that can improve structural balance and help with conditions such as headaches, neck and back pain all too common during pregnancy may be a better approach. In light of this new information, and lets face it, we are finding out sometimes too late that any pharmaceutical used during pregnancy does cross the placenta and effect the baby in some way, it would be wise to consider drug free treatment approaches like chiropractic care.
